How long have you been blogging and what made you start?
I started blogging in January 2017 and wanted to write to help other parents navigate the trials and tribulations of parenting. When I first became a parent in 2013 I thought I was doing it all wrong. I just couldn’t understand why I was finding it so difficult when all around me, other parents seemed to be nailing it! What I didn’t realise was that everyone struggles with something at one time or another, from those with the babies that simply never sleep, to those struggling to have a single minute of ‘me-time’ in amongst the demands of family life. Parenting is wonderful but let’s face it, it’s not always easy. Sometimes all you need is someone to say ‘you know what? I’ve been there. I get it’.
What do you wish you had known before you started?
That you can’t win ‘em all! A handful of engaged followers is worth so much more than thousands of disengaged followers.
What one tip would you give to a new blogger?
Just do what you love. Don’t worry about stats at first, just focus on writing great content and the followers and page views will come.
What is the most surprising thing you have learned since you started blogging?
There is such a wonderful community of bloggers out there and some genuinely lovely people. There are so many people ready and willing to lend a hand if you need it!
What is the best thing about blogging?
I love when I feel like I’ve managed to reach out to someone with my writing. Every post click, comment or share really does mean the world to me. The first time someone messaged me and said I had helped them with one of my posts really made my day as this was what I had set out to do.
What new skills have you learned since you started blogging?
I’ve had to throw myself into the world of social media. I naively had no idea that once a post was written you had to get out there and promote it if you wanted it to be seen and one of the best ways to do that is through sharing it over social media. Before that I genuinely didn’t know what hashtags were for!
What is the most unusual thing you have done/received because of blogging?
I travelled for hours to go to my first ever blogging event. I got stuck in the worst traffic ever, I needed a wee more than I have ever needed a wee before and I ended up two hours late for it but I was determined to get there! I’m quite shy so it was not like me to do it alone at all!
What has been your proudest blogging achievement so far?
I wrote about the miscarriage I had before I had my two boys. It was always something I intended to write about but couldn’t quite find the words. It was quite therapeutic to write even though it stirred up a lot of emotions but I was truly touched by the support I had from others and was so pleased that it helped some other women going through something similar.
What is your blogging goal for the next year?
Quite simply to keep writing posts I’m proud of but I would also love for it to continue generating an income.
What will you be doing in 5 years time?
I have every intention of continuing the blogging journey. There’s been so many opportunities that have come about as a result of it and I’ve also met some lovely people from it. I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
Will we see you at a BlogOn event this year?
Yes and I can’t wait!
If Yes, What do you hope to learn more about at BlogOn?
I’d love to learn tips about working with brands.
If you enjoyed this why not check out last weeks Meet the Blogger Lady Janey.
